Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Tensions flared in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, as two factions of the Muslim community clashed violently in the Siwal Khas area under Jani police station limits. The clash involved bricks, stones, and even gunfire, according to eyewitnesses. A viral video of the incident has intensified concerns over law and order, as reports suggest at least three youths sustained injuries.
According to local sources, the violence stemmed from a verbal altercation and exchange of abuses a day earlier. The situation escalated when the rival factions confronted each other again in the morning, leading to a full-fledged fight. More than half a dozen people suffered injuries, while the police have detained three individuals for questioning. However, officials have yet to confirm whether shots were fired.
Law enforcement swiftly intervened to control the situation. Heavy police deployment has been put in place to prevent further unrest. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage to identify other individuals involved in the clash. An investigation is underway, and action will be taken against those responsible, officials said.
Meanwhile, another controversy emerged elsewhere in Meerut when sloganeering was reported after Eid prayers. A section of the crowd was seen chanting slogans, and a person held up a sign reading, "Muslims are not the only ones who pray on the streets." The police quickly dispersed the gathering to avoid further disturbances. However, some individuals continued to chant slogans even after being warned.
The Meerut Police have increased security measures in both areas to prevent any escalation. Senior officials have urged citizens to maintain peace and not spread rumors. The situation remains tense, but under control, as investigations continue.
